Reflections

My mother placed me in an educational institution when I was five, and I remained in one ever since! However, much learning is available away from organised set-ups. Sharing experiences is a wonderful human activity.

Appointments.

I'm going to be dead on time for my funeral !!!

Appointments are meant to be honoured or else never contracted. They must be respected, at least, as far as humanly possible.

Regrettably, people in a tight corner, sometimes opt to settle for a future appointment as an immediate solution to exit a thorny situation. They have not the least intention to keep the commitment.

Some time ago, I was in the company of a popular VIP of my acquaintance. In the short space of less than an hour he accepted appointments to meet four different individuals, on the same day, and at the very same time, and at four different places which were miles apart, to discuss some urgent business. Drawing his attention to the absurdity of his scheduling, his crisp reply was:
"Never mind. I am not meeting anyone at all!"

Passing a judgment on such behaviour is better left to the imagination of my esteemed readers.

Giving enough prior notice of a cancellation of an appointment is the most sensible way to go about missing a commitment. Admittedly, sometimes, due to pressure of work or pleasure, it becomes next to impossible to honour an appointment. This is normally justified because of unforeseen circumstances that crop up at the very last moment. They ruin all preparations and good faith, no matter how much one tries to discover prompt solutions.

A polite message or any other communication, the choice of which is so numerous to-day, by way of explanation, will be very appropriate in such events. Too many of these, however, on very frequent occasions may lower one's esteem and credibility.

Sometimes keeping appointments may present hilarious situations. Turning up at the wrong reception hall for your best friend's wedding reception, or attending the wrong funeral are only two cases in point.

But do make it a point to be dead on time for your next appointments.
