Reflections

My mother placed me in an educational institution when I was five, and I remained in one ever since! However, much learning is available away from organised set-ups. Sharing experiences is a wonderful human activity.

First rains.

First seasonal rains come with a noisy thud. They are usually accompanied by lightning and thundering. They signal the end of a hot summer and the start of a long autumn.

In countries where rain is very scarce and life depends largely on its daily share, the first seasonal rains break the headlines. The production of water sometimes depends largely on its mechanical production through the reverse osmosis process.

Sky water gives a start to a fresh new beginning, unless there is too much of it that creates havoc.

Our everday life practically follows, from the cradle to the grave, the same pattern. People change from one state to the next as if from good weather to bad. Events are sometimes as flowery as the meadows, and at other times as thorny as the spines on the back of a porcupine.

Life time-lines are often studded with extremes, which are often marked by changes and more changes: changes in beliefs, in personal esteem, in intimate relationships, in political loyalty, in fluctuating financial standing, and the ups and downs of one’s health, or the lack of it.

But hopefully the first rains may bring changes for the better.

Many life-long firsts are never forgotten especially the ones that have a personal bearing, such as the passage from one development stage to another, birthdays, anniversaries, first partner dating, first positive results.

First impressions, like the seasonal first rains, are the ones that last longer.
