The haves and the have nots.
With all the good will in the world, and the bad that goes along with it, there shall always be those who have, the opulent, and the have nots, alias, the deprived.
The setting up of social services, aiming at creating a welfare state, is an admission by administrations of the existence of large portions of the population, who are living below acceptable decent human standards.
You have only to look around you, either in your own country or elsewhere on the globe, to confirm these perceptions. And what makes situations more ridiculously unacceptable, is identifying communities living in below standard situations in countries that are renowned for their wealth and prosperity.
There may be many reasons for such a state of affairs. It may well be the case that the receiving end of social sub-standard communities block advancement because the 'status quo' is effortless, and therefore does not require any commitment.
Take education, for example.
No matter how hard administrations strive to render all literacies a universal commodity, still, even in some highly progressive countries, a huge chunk of school leavers, at least where education is compulsory, leave their institutions as illiterate or semi-illiterate in the three R's and in information technology.
Something must be wrong somewhere.

As the the problems in society are so varied,so are the abilities of people. We are not all born on the same plateau, with the same privledges,either physically,mentally or socially. I believe everyone person who's life improves for the better, is one success.
We cannot change overnight what it took many years to create. We have issues we will never understand, mental health, fate, accidents, illness.
Haves or have nots... one thing is sure is that we are all vulnerable and death comes to all of us, this is the scales of justice.
Thanks very much for the comment. It amplifies further the perceptions hinted in the reflection about "the haves and the have nots." In fact, it offers yet another perspective. Living in to-day's complex society, which though seemingly offering a daunting challenge, yet, it has its rewards and satisfaction; and at the end of the mortal day, one can safely confirm that life is never wasted on the living.
