Reflections

My mother placed me in an educational institution when I was five, and I remained in one ever since! However, much learning is available away from organised set-ups. Sharing experiences is a wonderful human activity.

Humour in customs.

No, no…………it is not about the customs that arriving or departing travellers are forced to pay as tax duties at airports or other terminals. That is not humourous at all.

It is customary that the more efficient secretaries sitting behind the desks of the professional institutions, acknowledge and reply to incoming correspondence. But not all are of the same opinion. Not replying becomes a more frequent strategy.

Traffic is customarily organised to flow either on the right of the road or on the left. “Keep right” or “Keep left” is an ubiquitous sign very well understood, especially on busy roads. Generally speaking, this custom works fine, but it is very frequently rubbished, by some drivers who find it very humourous to drive in the shade, wherever it is, on hot summer days.

It is customary for politicians to devise electoral programmes which are drilled into the brains of the electors. But very often the promises lose their fragrance and appeal after voting day. Voters are to-day becoming wiser and wiser and go for the more serious programmes as proposed by the more pragmatic politicians to improve the quality of life of the citizens.

It is very christian to follow the commandments to the letter. But it is thought sometimes very convenient to add an extra one at the tail of the list: “thou shan't be found out.”

Most golfers believe that playing the eighteen holes on a golf course is an uplifting exercise towards wellbeing and good health. But it is also believed that the nineteenth hole is by far the most rewarding, pleasant and satisfying. You know what I mean.

It is customary to consume one’s food sitting at table. But sometimes this posture is overlooked due to lack of enough time. Fast food attempts to solve the equation to the detriment of good health practice is readily available.

The list is endless.
