Reflections

My mother placed me in an educational institution when I was five, and I remained in one ever since! However, much learning is available away from organised set-ups. Sharing experiences is a wonderful human activity.

Options.

Options spell responsibilities. It is perhaps more difficult to make choices, than just follow ready or tailor-made instructions.

A pre-requisite for an option is drawing up a list of priorities, which entails deciding what comes first and what comes last. Fitting in between the alpha and the omega are preferences that challenge the integrity, transparency and ethics of the person involved.

The way a priority list is drawn up indicate to a large extent the values and standards of the individual actor. Of course, an important factor is flexibility, meaning that changes to lists drawn up in the past can and should be updated and upgraded as time goes by. To be immutable is only a virtue enjoyed by the deities.

Mentalities change. And with them previously projected responsibilites change too. In fact, time changes and we change with it or as the Latin proverb goes “tempus mutatur et nos mutamur in illis.” Even the great progress that developed within the last century imposed gigantic changes on society, on the family, on governance, on transport, on mentalities and on every other human activity.

The best changes are always those for the better, though sometimes even the wisest make some wrong decisions or choices. A case in point is sentiment and its impact on others. It is very difficult to reconcile the fact that yesterday’s lovers turn into to-day’s or to-morrow’s deadliest enemies. The history of humanity in general offers abundant examples, and in particular, where unfortunate conflicts are nurtured among individuals, they bring along acrimonious conflicts that scar the very existence of the dramatis personae involved.

Talented persons and those with greater leadership skills, are quick to take their options, list unflinchingly their priorities, and take decisions. That is indeed why people who lead, and topping the list are, of course, politicians, must be very careful and make responsible programmes.

This is of course a very vast topic which cannot be possibly discussed exhaustively in a limited space. But the bottom line is: think, think, think, ………..and then act.
