Reflections

My mother placed me in an educational institution when I was five, and I remained in one ever since! However, much learning is available away from organised set-ups. Sharing experiences is a wonderful human activity.

Wicked Leeks - Episode 1.

To the south of Whistleland, Verdeman, a bird with a marvellous array of colourful streaks on his plumage, was very popular with the rest of the bird colonies that populated the country. Some, the more affluent lived in large and comfortable aviaries. It was only when Verdeman ruffled some one else’s feathers that his popularity dwindled. It led, in fact, to a serious commotion whenever it happened.

Whistleland formed part of the larger country named Wicked Leeks. The place took its name after vast marshes where leeks grew abundantly, disappeared due to excessive land warming and pollution. But colonies of birds, and their leaders, made their home in Wicked Leeks.

All the birds without exception, made their best to feather their own nests, sometimes even to the detriment of their peers. Some, especially those of the same feathers ganged to offer resistance to their rival species.

The most formidable weapon was always the media, which more often than not based its stories on chatter and gossip.

It goes without saying that confidential statements always remained the domain of a restricted group that enjoyed the same priveleges and authority. They were the ruling politicians. Breeds of this type ruled most of the countries neighbouring Wicked Leeks. The traditional guiding principle was always adopted, that is, that birds of the same feathers should flock together, endeavouring to keep confidential knowledge as close as possible to their chests, and letting sleeping dogs lie.

But on a very fine day, Verdeman, through the sofisticated media available, made it known that many of the ruling vips had a lot to hide. Verdeman wrongly believed that the exposures would raise him up a few metres on the pedestal of fame.

But the opposite happened.

Most of the leaders of the bird colonies ganged together and made their very best to render Verdeman inoffensive. The only solution was to gag him as securely as possible and without further delay. Executives were eager to see him captured, the judiciary was looking forward to have him in the dock, and legislators hurriedly amended the laws of the country to have him handcuffed on a number of crimes.

Part 2 will be dealt with in a later blog, as soon as the story develops further.
