Reflections

My mother placed me in an educational institution when I was five, and I remained in one ever since! However, much learning is available away from organised set-ups. Sharing experiences is a wonderful human activity.

Curly, the poodle.

"Who decided that I prefer my fur shorn the way most of my owners demand ? I have never been asked, nor have I ever expressed an opinion about it. In fact that's why I decided to use this medium to cyber-air my thoughts and complaints. I exhort you, dear fellow animals, to consider this only the start in a series. Your participation is kindly solicited.

"The way humbies (see a blog which I read some years back - click this link -http://donator.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html " impose their whims and fancies on our harmless appearances, is, to bark the least, as stupid as trying to expect a caterpillar to be taken out on a lead, like the rest of us.

"But let me defend the case of the rest of my ilk. The rest of my clan, and myself included, are often described as man’s (and I presume also woman’s), best friends. Some of us are. Others maybe not. What is upsetting and without our realising it, we are often bought over by a few dog-biscuits, or other savoury eats. Sure enough this saves a lot of roaming about in search of some food, because with an empty stomach we easily get bored. But it also serves to enslave us to our owners.

"And whoever decided that we like the expensive shampoo used to keep ticks and parasites away. The sweet smell of most of the toiletries applied by humbies to keep us clean, are revolting, at least at the start of a dogcure treatment. We prefer at all times the smell of animal sweat and natural feel of things.

"Yes, that’s why, when left on the loose in a park or open-space, we are delighted to sniff other animals’ natural left-overs. You can witness this for yourselves, if you watch us sniffing at corners, cars’ wheels and other places, only when set free for a while but under the watchful eyes of our owners.

"By the way, the same humbies do. But they are shy to admit it.

"Some of us carry centuries old histories. My colleague, Isis living next door, is a vivid reminder of the splendour of the land of the pyramids. He is always willing to relate the fate of his ancestors, as brought to him from long generations of hounds. He talks about the precious thrones of the Pharoahs of which he has hands and feet on experiences, but he does that only to his colleagues, because humbies are never prepared to listen.

"Domesticated pets, others locked up behind bars or roaming in the wild, will do well to take these sentiments seriously and stand up for their rights. We are delighted to read that in some European countries a Court of Justice specifically meant for us has been set up. We can also be given a lawyer or solicitor to defend our case.

"The dawn of true civilization has started in earnest. It doesn't really matter to us if so many millions of humbis are dying of starvation."

A healthy mind in a healthy body.

A healthy mind in a healthy body.
Mens sana in corpore sano.

Awareness to good health is to-day a very prominent consideration that enjoys universal support and practice. Never before were health matters so top on everybody’s agenda. It is also very true that sometimes this attitude is lacking in the younger cohorts, who would give up good health in exchange for a few short periods of artifically generated happiness.

Visits to clinics, seeking expert advice and second opinions, and an innumerable items on a long health list are household topics. Blood testing for cholesterol, diabetes, kidney performance, not to mention breast screening, are all valid health promotion challenges. The list is simply never exhaustive.

Generally speaking, everybody strives to achieve or maintain better health. And the older one grows, one will go to the end of the world to ameliorate one's health condition. We are careful about our diet, we do sports to keep fit, we indulge in mental fatigue to keep alert, we refrain from tobacco, alcohol and dangerous drugs to sail away from treacherous reefs, and we do all that is humanly possible to keep in good health.

Truly enough, everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die, is a contradition to reality.

Refer to my welcoming message, in verse form, at my portal at http://www.culturedomain.com which attempts to reveal the truth about health matters.

The story of Nemo is well known. During one of his latest visits to his favourite clinic and health monitoring agency he was asked:
“We can trace a slight deterioration in your general health. Have you been drinking heavily lately ?”
“I never drink at all,” was the prompt reply.
“But do you smoke?”
“Never touched tobacco in my life.”
“Right. But what are your relationships with your partners ?"
“Within very reasonable limits!”
“Dear Nemo. Take our advice. Go out there and try to catch up on what you have been missing all these years!”
