Reflections

My mother placed me in an educational institution when I was five, and I remained in one ever since! However, much learning is available away from organised set-ups. Sharing experiences is a wonderful human activity.

My isms.

As years roll by uninterruptedly, one is apt to either achieve senile wisdom, or foolishness. The former being the residue of more serious life experiences, and the latter based on the jolly good old times once cherished in younger days.

As far as I am concerned, I have no idea to which side of the dichotomy I belong.

Sentiments of this type are often encapsulated in concise statements, which are loaded with meaningful connotations. Some refer to them as a handy figure of speech, while others refer to the more common ones of recent coinage as isms, which has nothing to do with the ordinary “isms” journalists refer to in the media, such as capitalism, consumerism, egoism, fatalism, idealism, and hundreds of others. Different people have different ways of conveying lines shrouded in chosen attractive words.

My rendering the meaning of a belief in a succinct statement is a case in point. As hinted above, the designation of “ism” is often added as a suffix to the word being considered, such as “capital” plus “ism”, gives “capitalism.” And so on with a long list of words. Having Tarcian as my family name, the expression of my attitudes and judgment are often referred to, by my friends and others, as Tarcianisms. They illustrate through colour in saying.

Let me illustrate further with a few examples.

Having a character positively super-charged, I always manage to see the bright side of things, the silver lining, the half full bottle, and so on. My dispositions are more often than not underlined by a plus mark, even in difficult environments. My way of expressing this feeling is: “I shall always praise the beauty of the ocean, even when drowning.”

One of my hates is being late for an appointment. It is often quite noticeable, that some people have lateness grooved in their DNA, and are always late even if the outcome of a scheduled meeting is perceived to be to one’s advantage. They simply cannot ever be on time, not even when they try their very best to oblige. Besides the fact that punctuality is the virtue of kings, turning up late is unethical, a bore and abounds in uncouthness.

I shall always try to be punctual even in extreme circumstances. In fact, “I shall be dead on time for my funeral.”

Other Tarcianisms:
“in the best fights we lose our shirts, in the bad ones we lose also our skin.” The meaning is of course hidden in the saying; or “do not watch time going by, you’ll have plenty of it when you lose it.”

And nothing so apt in closing than telling my readers: “colours divide, good-will unites,” have your pick. You can either choose the colours or the good-will.
