Rodent, the Mouse..........(2)
Watching the snorkel box from
a good distance behind the sofa in front of the telly, he could follow an
advert explaining how best to entertain one’s guests. The advert was, of course
meant for human consumption, but as it involved Rodent’s favourite food item,
of which he had never had enough, he stood motionless and as quiet as a mouse,
listening.
Toppers was the latest of the
delicacies in the finger-food genre that was becoming very popular with people who
always preferred to have little solids to consume so that they could gulp as much of the alcohol available as
possible. Toppers consisted of crumbled toasted bread covered in the most
sophisticated brand of cheese, which cannot be mentioned due to advertising
restrictions.
A handful of invitation-cards
was issued and distributed among his best friends and acquaintances, who were
delighted to accept the invitation. It was ages since any of their peer group
sent invitations for a warm get-together. On top of the list of guests were Grex,
the orator, Sapiens, the wise and Saxo, the musician. There were some others,
of course.
